Thought of a couple new possibilities re the increase in weight: 1. Food tech has improved to make food more delicious, causing more eating
-
-
-
2. Food variety has increased, and people eat more when their diets are less monotonous.
-
Basic idea is food is more appealing (competitive pressures help this along) -> people eat more
-
Obviously this is a complex issue and I know these theories would only explain some of the change.
-
There's two big facts - the time series increase, and the poor being fatter than the rich. Hard to find a theory that fits both.

I expect that's also part of it. But even independent of that I think people are eating more

that's where I think food tech and variety come in, part of why people want to eat more

domestic pets are fatter too. Could be something environmental, messing with hormones
-
the same competition and tech affecting the deliciousness of human food may also be affecting the animal food
-
possible. I lean to environmental (chemicals, nighttime lighting, ?) b/c my grandma's pies and cookies were as delicious as any
