In general the willingness of Senators to vote in favor of nominees who fundamentally disagree with them is strange.

The Supreme Court will run just fine with a missing justice. Anyone who cares about the vacancy (instead of the ideological makeup) is wrong

Plenty of justices have been confirmed in election years or presidency year 8, but the Senate can do what it wants either way.
