Do they practice as much as sports stars?
@Jkqyl I'd say raw brainpower isn't directly measurable, but those with more are much better at solving problems.Tests provide insight to it

@HbdNrx In a computer what would solve problems? Not just raw brainpower but developed algorithms. -
@HbdNrx In machine learning, the correctness of algorithms depends on the amount of data the learner has seen. -
@Jkqyl we can't just change peoples' algorithms directly. I gave you some evidence of how effort only changes scores a little. -
@HbdNrx People develop their algorithms. This is what learning is. -
@HbdNrx You talked about an unknown amount of effort put in for something some of the kids might not even care about much. -
@Jkqyl they quantified the time put in. kids know the SAT matters. you don't have data showing dramatic improvements -
@Jkqyl I'm not really sure why you're arguing that if only people put in more work they'll score substantially better on these tests. -
@HbdNrx To point out that in a world that values IQ, the great scientists will not pass their DNA, only the great IQ test practicers. - 4 more replies
