I was oblivious to racial politics pre-2008. I thought that we could all mostly agree to be rational and work for the common good.

I was well aware of racial differences in IQ, aggression, etc., but I wasn't aware of racial differences in in-group preference.

Example: In the 80s and 90s, the left by and large believed in free speech. Now they don't.
