Sure, without the Industrial Revolution and the scientific revolutions, humanity would have had a much less impactful effect on the environment. But we would still be living miserable and difficult lives, as was the norm for most of our history. Comfort came at a price.

You can not have a technological civilization without significantly impacting your environment. At least not until you refine your technology to the point that your civilization becomes environmentally friendly.
