I suppose another thing to look for after science/engineering is people who aren't really part of the elite culture & people whose families don't travel in those circles.

I did STEM at an elite school. Came out lightly indoctrinated. But then I stayed in a leftwing workplace 4 years, stayed centre left due to cultural pressure (most important factor). 1 year in a start-up trying to make a profit and I went from centre-left to hard-right.

Big companies and government institutions inevitably become hives of the standard ideology. (Conquest's alleged second law) The only place people get snapped out of it is in small companies, and as soon as as they hit 100 people a HR Commissar will be deployed.
