According to the crusading Mr. Adelstein, even the yakuza are now "oppressed" and crime is low in Japan not because of its cohesive, high-trust society, but because the police there are well-paid and "omnipresent" (they're not). How about letting the Japanese define themselves?

Dude, do you even live in Japan
@KingBaeksu ? "The Japanese" aren't a monolith entity. Japan is not your girlfriend. Amongst those who actually live here, the idea of Japanese as an identity is varied Get a hobby. Don't bother Barry, he has a real job. I just find you amusing.5 replies 0 retweets 1 like -
Mr. Adelstein and Mr. Eisler have extremely strong opinions on how "Japan Needs ‘Foreigner Blood’ Like Naomi Osaka’s" and you aren't entitled to question them, much less to suggest that maybe the Japanese should get the final say on the matter.http://www.unz.com/isteve/japan-needs-foreigner-blood-like-naomi-osakas/ …

Of course I have an opinion—hopefully that's ok? Grateful if you could be more specific about who suggested that “no one is entitled to question” it, and that "Japanese should [not] get the final say on the matter." (Wouldn’t it be more productive to engage the actual arguments?)

In general, people are threatened, attacked, and fired for questioning the need for diversity. Also, you and/or the other guy argue that Japan *must* increase diversity, rather than saying that the Japanese people should decide to embrace diversity. Subtly anti-democratic

And the truth is, the populations of many nations have opposed increased immigration and diversification, yet they've been subjected to it despite their opposition. I'm sure you think this is a good thing. Why is that?

Appreciate the thoughtful reply—not something Twitter is well-suited for. Can’t speak for Jake, but I don’t think he chose the “must" sub-lede; regardless, I think it implies an “if Japan wants to keep the working-age population constant”...

My position has always been that (moderate) population decline is a great thing for the remaining population once you get over the hump of a skewed age distribution.
