Appreciate the thoughtful reply—not something Twitter is well-suited for. Can’t speak for Jake, but I don’t think he chose the “must" sub-lede; regardless, I think it implies an “if Japan wants to keep the working-age population constant”...

That said, I certainly agree that how to handle immigration isn’t for outsiders to decide. Though I can also say that as an American, I have no problem with (in fact, I welcome) outsiders opining about America. Anyway, thanks again for the thoughtful response.
