"White privilege" came out of academics as early as the 80s, spent years brewing among faculty, jumped to student activists around the early 2000s, then went viral on social media. In 2003 there was very little mention of it, but by 2005 all the connected undergrads were talking

Well, critical theory/cultural marxism does have a longer history, but the idea that really changed things in the last 20 years was "privilege"

The term "white guilt" isn't used positively today. The sense of white guilt has been around since at least the 60s. The term "white privilege" originated in the 80s but was very obscure until ~2005
