Yeah, because the category "white" is associated with white nationalism and discriminatory policies. If a Polish- or Italian-American leader complained about assimilation/intermarriage, he probably wouldn't get any more blowback than Wasserman Schultz.

Are you from America? Do you think an Irish leader saying Irish intermarriage is a problem would be just as controversial as a white leader saying the same thing about white intermarriage?

You made the claim that it wouldn’t matter, don’t pass the buck

What are you talking about? I wrote "If a Polish- or Italian-American leader complained about assimilation/intermarriage, he probably wouldn't get any more blowback than Wasserman Schultz." Wasserman Schultz did get some blowback, so I'm saying an Irish leader might get the same.

The difference is that Polish and Italian-Americans don't care that much about their ethnic identity independent from "white" whereas Jewish people tend to care more about their independent Jewish identity.

For most Jews with a "Jewish" identity it's about having a nominal connection to the religion rather than a genuine ethnic identity. That's why leading Reform Rabbis celebrate conversion and the fact that Jews are "racially diverse" (as I document in my response to Dutton).

I don't really understand how someone can believe to be part of a "chosen people" while simultaneously inviting all in or encouraging outmarriage, but nevertheless I agree there is a lot of encouragement of diversity even internally. Still, they believe in Jewish identity.

Whereas I can't really think of anyone believing in Episcopalian or Unitarian or Methodist identity.

Personally, I've noticed that Jewish student clubs and identity mean far more to the students in question than Polish or Italian or Greek clubs. The Jewish clubs are more like the black or hispanic clubs in that way
