Precisely my take. Gerrymandering favors GOP due to rural state demographic split. If the foretold +2 gain in senators occurs, that will be the strongest sign that things have gone horribly wrong for the dems.

I suspect that's the case. During the "meme jihad", the idea that desires could be memed into existence and made manifest was a common joke ("meme magic"). I think that pissed off the left even more because that was their only real strategy to get Hillary elected.

One of the biggest problems with democracy is that nobody could possibly be as engaged as they'd need to be in order to obtain good outcomes. Everything devolves into constructing houses of cards that look the most believable to the onlooker, and sometimes there's a sudden gust.

Right. Moldbug linked to "The Limits of Pure Democracy" as a source. It is very effective at demonstrating that even representative democracies have this flaw. Who knows whether or not a government should practice bimetallism, it asks. That's a complicated question.
