This guy is claiming that immigration increases fertility, and I believe he's specifically referring to native fertility (though initially I expected that he was referring to immigrant babies). However, seehttps://twitter.com/nmgrm/status/1017589794665160704?s=19 …

Fertility is indeed lower in more prosperous countries, but the idea that this means we need to increase immigration is disastrously wrong. My position is that fertility will work itself out and population decline is ok.
-
I object to the idea that we simply need more people. More smart people or more people of our own group so that we can fend off other, perhaps, but not more people in general.
-
“Fend off other”. I agree no immmigration won’t be the end of the world. We didn’t always have 300 mil ppl in the USA afterall. The retirement programs will b a problem. Not sure if fertility will take of itself. Maybe taxing single childless ppl more might help.

There's going to be a period of time with a lot of unproductive older people relative to the working age population, but once you get past that quality of life will skyrocket (see aftermath of the plague in Europe)
-
I think u meant to put a comma between “that, quality”. I’ll check out aftermath of the plague in Europe. What did u mean by “fend off other”?
-
The s for "others" got dropped (phone typing and all). Anyway, if you're getting invaded you need enough of your own people to defend against that invasion.
-
Then shouldn’t u just want “more people of our own group“ immigrating nstead of smart people in general?
-
I'm just saying I could understand someone arguing for more smart people or more of their own people, but why would anyone argue for more people in general?

"immigration increases [native] fertility" ... amongst the countries with the most depressed fertility rates
-
My guess is that claim is totally wrong and they're actually noticing some other correlation.
