I don't really want to get into abortion too much, but overall I'm thankful for Roe vs. Wade. However, due to federalism and states rights, I think it might be better to leave the issue to each state.

Sorry, I know this tweet is incoherent. What I'm really trying to get at is eugenics vs. federalism, and I'm torn on the subject

Ok I've decided that the correct legal move at this point would be to leave it alone due to stare decisis. Here's the thing: I think it would be a huge mistake to bring abortion back as a big political issue. Overturning Roe would energize the left way too much.

If I were a Trump court nominee, you guys would whine so much after my Roe decision and call me a RINO, but the truth is I'd be doing you a favor.

That was what you used to do, before Roe 😏

Yeah, I know. Ok I'm really torn on Roe itself for this reason.

Good outcomes apparently but bad in a legal sense? Maybe

Well, legally it was a travesty. Even if you're pro-choice I'm not sure the outcomes were good. 40 years of argument, division and bitterness instead of 40 years of gradual persuasion and democratic liberalisation.

Roe leaves no room for nuance, debate or experimentation. No room for different states to have different approaches. It's pretty awful imo.

The eugenic argument is persuasive though, I'll give you that.

Are the eugenic effects of widespread abortion seen in other countries too or just the U.S.? I haven't seen much on Europe or Asia

I don't really know. In general I would think that poorer people get more abortions. The difficult question is figuring out how people would act in the absence of abortion, though.

I am also torn on this; Ireland however seems to provide a good example of restrictive abortion policy not having mass dysgenic effects. All the people there until recently have been Irish though

I don't think there's a single state that would ban it entirely
