I want to engage in research, but I would prefer to use a pathway that doesn't sit within an institution, and require compliance to a set of arbitrary rules. Atn uni is perceived as the highest learning pathway. My dream is to diversify higher learning pathways.
I have major issues with the way that academia and often academics are automatically warranted an inequitable amount of respect, than someone with the same skills but no equivalent qualification. This is especially true when I think about the knowledge held by our elders.
Taking the academic road feels like the "easy option" because its the road well worn & defined by the institution. I don't mean that to down play the hard work thats required, just to say that I did my undergrad because it was the thing you do after school, it was comfortable.
I may be over complicating this. If anyone can offer some insights into the things I've touched on I would be super grateful, some examples of people making waves outside of academia or maybe is academia where I should really be. Any thoughts are so appreciated?
