A lot of folks are wondering “what was low-key about the Tea Party’s racism???” Well, the fact is that they had to pretend it was zero percent about race — and serious people believed them. It really marks how segment of the right-wing has shiftedhttps://www.msnbc.com/opinion/gop-s-critical-race-theory-astroturfing-new-tea-party-n1272492 …

Like here’s a fun fact: when the NAACP’s delegates called for the Tea Party’s leaders to condemn racists in their midsts, those leaders…condemned the NAACP for daring say such a thing. That included the late Andrew Breitbart. https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/gop-s-critical-race-theory-astroturfing-new-tea-party-n1272492 …pic.twitter.com/b32SgVfO1J

But here’s what’s really wild: folks were like “oh man, maybe the NAACP is going too far! Why would they hurt themselves and their reputation like this?” Even Ta-Nehisi Coates had to sit with it for a second before agreeing with the NAACP’s movehttps://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2010/07/the-naacp-is-right/59793/ …

Now here we are today with the GOP openly embracing the anti-CRT “grassroots” campaign as the way back to power. And with quotes like this from Steve Bannon, who himself was a big Tea Party promoter, the motivation is clear af https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/gop-s-critical-race-theory-astroturfing-new-tea-party-n1272492?icid=msd_topgrid …pic.twitter.com/sKqMCyunIv

So, to sum up, the GOP is hoping for a repeat of 2010’s Tea Party surge on the back of anti-CRT activism. This time though it’s more honest: they aren’t even pretending it’s not about whipping up the fears of white suburban votershttps://www.msnbc.com/opinion/gop-s-critical-race-theory-astroturfing-new-tea-party-n1272492?icid=msd_topgrid …

I have to admit it never occurred to me the Tea Party was about race. I was convincing it started in reaction to overspending under George W Bush. The Iraq war wasn’t cheap.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement#History …

It's pretty obvious if you scrawl through their tweets. The emphasis is on "CRT = anti white". Not anti equality, discrimination, diversity, or any number of other similar ideas. Anyone that disagrees is lambasted and dehumanized. The purpose and audience is clear
