I assume this is a parody, right? DC bureaucrats aren’t actually saying out loud that moving to Missouri is ... punishment, are they? Because surely nobody could be that condescending & elitist.https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/10/21/white-house-didnt-like-my-agencys-research-so-it-sent-us-missouri/ …

“The agency has managed to hire a few sharp new researchers in Kansas City, but they’re just a drop in the bucket.” Because of course there are no smart people in Kansas City or the Midwest. You can’t make this stuff up.

You are a US Senator. You have a responsibility to make sure government actually works. Are you not bothered at all that whole areas of essential federal research relevant to agriculture in states like yours have just disappeared? https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/10/21/white-house-didnt-like-my-agencys-research-so-it-sent-us-missouri/ …pic.twitter.com/NMtQjZOUpk

He is much more concerned with pretending to take it as an insult to his state so he can be seen as its defender against the "elites," one of whom he works very hard to appear not to be.

Senator, agreed. Sounds to me employees (who jumped ship) were more interested in leveraging the agency as a test case for AI / machine learning scenarios, rather than living near the community of farmers for whom the agency exists. BTW: MO is home to a large # of ML enthusiasts!

Because nobody is ever worried about yanking their kids out of a school they are doing well at. Or a spouse having a difficult time finding a job in a new city. Or leaving aging parents behind. No, employees were worried about "leveraging the agency."

Perhaps the problem is that you are the elitist who is perfectly happy uprooting peoples families and careers for no other reason then to ship their insight and expertise as far away from the halls of Congress as possible to make sure corruption wins out.

.Many people/elected officials/candidates have advocated for distributing agencies closer to the people they serve.

You could literally replace "Missouri" with virtually any other state and the viewpoints of the opinion would remain the same. The final location of the move wasn't the point. It was the treatment leading up to and the actual move itself. JFC.

Weird flex from someone unwilling to move to the state Capitol when elected to statewide office, but ok.
