This is Ray, who I met at Nick’s place. Ray graduated from Malden, played sports, was a good athlete, but is struggling to make it now. He’s got three young kids he’s supporting & he wants to do right by them. He says good work is hard to come bypic.twitter.com/ywkqCSD3P0

He talks about the resume game. If you don’t have a fancy degree on the resume, he says it’s hard to get a good job. There aren’t any technical schools or vocational programs available in the area, so young people like Ray are left to fend for themselves

.Is there a local library? Access to PC/Internet? Coursera, Udacity, EdX, KhanAcademy and libraries offer free/very inexpensive courses/certifications/degrees.

i wonder how flooding the lower rungs of the job market with millions of mostly under skilled ppl helps this man's prospects.

Perfect opportunity for Ray to set up shop for future generations from his area so that the cycle ceases to overwhelm their lives. Networking n philanthropy may just see this fella and so many more out of his and their own struggles as they build their community! #groundUP @pulte

No schools in the area? Does Ray know about cars? There’s tech schools within driving distance. However, due to Minimum Wage increases, Ray’s part-time jobs may be not as plentiful!

This is from their community college catalog. He might consider enrolling. Day, evening, online classes available. They also have some interesting workforce development programs. https://www.trcc.edu/forms/catalog/programs/engineeringtech1920.pdf …

I know from experience that rural, nonunion manufacturing jobs are extremely low-paying. You have to train for something better in order to improve your career. The community college is almost always a reliable path to success.
