MLK understood the importance & dignity of work, something our policy “experts” have forgotten. He famously said: “No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance...”

Maybe if you would open the govt it would help the economy. Because it’s not just the feds that lost work it’s all of the contractors also that lost work which is not good for the economy. Those businesses are suffering as well.

You need to put our 800K government workers back to work. Have your arguments over immigration AFTER you get this government back to work!

Sounds good. Vote to reopen the government tomorrow and prove that you mean this stuff. Because thousands of Missourians are working without pay and that isn't right. Put your constituents first and show you actually care about MO workers.

So true. I’m on of those federal workers in MO required to work without pay. This is your chance Senator
@HawleyMO to show you believe in what you say and it’s not just talk.#EndTheShutdown - 1 more reply

If the unemployment rate is at record lows, how can this be "one of the biggest challenges we face as a nation"? There appears to be plenty of work available, but the fruits of all that labor appears to be going to only a few people.

The biggest challenge facing the nation is that you have 100s of 1000s people actually working, but not getting paid. I didn’t vote for you but you talk about taking the path less traveled — how bout showing some courage and stand up to the bullies in your party?

The green new deal would do exactly that, while also giving our kids a better future.
-
It would also give them total dependency on the government because the economy will be wrecked by what would in a nutshell be a government takeover of many private industries. Government is never the answer but is almost always the problem.
