There's a tiny bar in Shinjuku that @_glocks and I have gone to a few times this week. Last night the best thing happened. Story incoming.

The bar is full of art, merchandise, and other collectibles from Ashita no Joe, a boxing manga from the 60s. It's a really cool vibe.

We wanted to thank the bar owner for welcoming us into his bar (there are only like six seats), so we bought him some Ashita no Joe merch.

We were nervous about how to present it because we hadn't really talked with him at all and were unsure about gifting etiquette in Japan.

On our second drink we just gave it to him and managed to communicate that it was a gift despite not speaking Japanese. HE WAS SO STOKED.

He spent the next 2 hours geeking out about the series and pulling out these really rare collectibles and autographed prints to show us.

Then he gave us gifts! An old plate with characters from the show on it and a copy of a sketch the artist made for him, of him and his bar.

He also showed us some old photos of the bar's opening day in 1966 and him as a younger guy with his guitar.pic.twitter.com/0IOrNRr33x
