Reviews never take that away. And, I assure you, players will come up with a swath of opinions too! Our job is to give a professional opinion on how the game is usually before it's available. I think it's worth reading things I do and don't agree with to further educate myself :)

And it's a professional opinion that a broken mess of an unfinished game is the "best in the series"? Okay.

As others have asked: have you played it? And if this is your standard for a broken mess then you clearly haven't seen a genuine broken mess of a game

You don't have to enjoy this game. No review is telling you you /have/ to. It's okay to have a different opinion and to be disappointed, but you don't need to be a jerk about it.

You know what? Fair, but just from the title alone, I can tell it's not genuine. Also consider that you're now playing a console release (50% price hike) for less content, less Pokémon, and reused models they lied about remaking.

If it was my paid job to tell people about a game, I'd be extremely hesitant to say something is the best on the series unless I truly felt that. I'm also not being paid so I can speak freely, but this game truly is a mess.

She did truly feel that! We are not compensated any more than our regular salary for our reviews and we are of course speaking freely. I've never felt pressured to skew a piece of content in one way or another in all my years in this industry.

If you say so, though I'm still firmly in the belief that this game was rushed and unfinished. The world will know in a few days.

Not out to change your opinion on that really
Just asking you to not unfairly call someone unprofessional because they don't share your views. Lots of games to play and I hope you find one you enjoy!

The whole problem I have is if you get a review copy, you're obligated to be at worst neutral but slightly positive or you lose reviewer perks from the company. On top of that, reviewers are many to protect consumers, but as of late simply have not been.

That's not the case at all. There is /no/ expectation to have any sort of direction from our assigning reviews exec ed (@DanStapleton) nor from upper management. Look at Death Stranding. Some of us loved it. Our review did not. Our reviewer got to write the review he wanted.

I think they are implying from the publisher not from IGN staff. There have been instances of pubs refusing to give out review copies based on previous reviews. This happened to some for Death Stranding even. I believe Collin didnt get one. I doubt IGN has to worry bout that tho.

When they do that we publicly shame them, so it's no secret. You'll hear about it. But it's *extremely* rare for any major game to pull that with us unless it has some online complications.
