Finally out! An elegant perspective unifying theoretical insights and experimental richness on how neural circuits from flies to mammals do pattern separation (for distinguishing small changes) from my talented & soon-to-be-PI friend Alex N. Cayco-Gajic!

Well-balanced perspective and a much-needed dialogue about what we mean by/is there a universal cerebellar transform that generalizes across (motor and cognitive) domains!

I was writing about why manifolds are funny😑 but correlations aren't? Does anyone know of papers where corr are (exclusively) manipulated experimentally/OR proof of downstream influence/behavioral influence (not user's decoder performance pls!) Maybe for your book?

Please read this. It applies to any work environment where women are hired and supported when they are junior and “non-threatening”. Yet, when they become equals to the men in power, they get isolated, disrespected and ultimately pushed away.

With hauntingly evocative lines, Eliot's Preludes was a prelude to my love for modernist poetry, art, fiction: I am moved by fancies that are curled Around these images, and cling: The notion of some infinitely gentle Infinitely suffering thing.

This person took ~1700 pages of notes in mathematics lectures using LaTeX and Vim, and documented the workflow:

In all theoretical science, and more obviously physics, different explanations are finally resolved to be reformulations of different aspects of a more abstract and inclusive theory ... But why?? 😱 To me, this is partly the constant surprise and perfection/beauty of mathematics!

How awesome if the rover DOES find some signs of the (past) existence of life on Mars! How do they identify 'signs of life'? Complex organic molecules? But does it have to be carbon-based?

Yasss! Rosalind Franklin was an amazing scientist, and a strong, sassy woman whose contributions extend both before and beyond the DNA structure controversy. And I keep recommending (pushing) Brenda Maddox's biography of her to everyone!

At the upper and lower limits of any particular growth, the dominating forces differ...hence the FORM differs. Likewise, the increase in tissue complexity is not just owed to a greater "constructional/dynamic" advantage but also a fundamental limitation on the size of cells!

No extraordinary musculature "needed" to explain the flea's jumping prowess - animals ought to jump to the same ACTUAL height! Love these kinds of examples...

Natural selection as an explanation of form is incomplete/ unsatisfactory. Possible variation is subject to physical constraints - gravity, friction & other mechanical forces - but also "exploits" them - viscosity, capillarity, diffusion, geom. principles for force distributn

So how long have these things been around? The right answer is also the most counter-intuitive: only 13% of you got it right! Mammals: 225 million years Flowers: 160 million years Rings of Saturn: 100 million years
