I say customers join a mug club. 100% reusable cups that are suitable for all their beverages. Bring in your dirty mug in exchange for a clean one every time.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
Come up with a cup that's compostable, breaking down in a way that it basically disappears from the waste stream, or one becomes a component in another product.

Those little green take-away “hole plugs” are the worst. (To prevent spills? Keep it hot longer? Who knows.) Unnecessary & a waste of hard plastic. At least ask if it’s needed (opt in, not opt out)... and have a bin by the trash can to collect / resue?
