2 things going on here: 1) An attempt to make the Democratic governor look bad, insinuating it's his sole authority. It isn't. County Supervisors can. 2) Trying to dodge responsibility entirely by doing nothing. To her, it seems a win-win. Except now she's been exposed.
My opponent has the power to waive late fees for struggling Orange County families — instead, she's passing the buck to the Governor in a campaign press release…4 days before property taxes are due.

Shari Freidenrich, OC Treasurer-Tax Collector, has the authority to enact the waiver until whatever date she chooses. The State receives none of these collected taxes and should not be involved nor interdict in county and local collection matters. Steel is irrelevant, as usual.

What a shame Michelle Steel has become. Doesn’t she know we are onto her? The Governor himself said during his COVID-19 update on Saturday, that he has no authority to postpone property taxes. NONE. However, Supervisors can and should. She should read up on her responsibilities!
