    Story involves Morgenstern and Einstein. They found it in Morgenstern’s notes at IAS in Princeton. Godel overprepared for US citizenship exam. Tried to tell the examiner the contradiction, much to Einstein’s horror. Always thought it was apocryphal but seems true! Worth reading

    Godel claimed to have found a logical path to a dictatorship consistent with the US constitution. See and notes there. My dad told me this story years ago. No one knows what he found, but he was the world’s foremost logician... food for thought in 2020!

    I routinely check on usage of words with my teenage kids, undergrad students, and graduate students. I wonder how many people in such age groups the dictionary’s usage panel has. I’m guessing zero?!

    Pinker is one of our foremost public intellectuals, but “proof by appeal to higher authority” or “proof by intimidation” is no proof. Moreover, he’s plain wrong about usage here, as this tweet shows. One now questions the panel’s credibility on other topics!

    I do not see how invoking his title as Chair of the Usage Panel of the AHD validates Steve Pinker’s claim. I invite him and all members of the Usage Panel to look for instead of , as I did by mistake in my office many years ago.

    When you start and work at a company after years in academia, it takes a while to learn some terms. Eg, “full stack” is neither “full” nor a “stack”, but a set of somewhat arbitrary and changing app-layer software components!
