I just started with Part 1 this morning, great so far! Interesting cultural insights to the Japanese soldiers of the time.

Also if you do make it to that part of the story, be sure to read Kokoda by Peter Fitzsimons. There are better books if you just want the simple facts about what occurred, but there is no better book to provide you with the Aus cultural underpinnings and Kokoda folklore.

This book will tell you all about how Australian's saw this as "The Battle for Australia" at the time, because Darwin was being bombed and widespread belief was if they took Port Moresby they would proceed to invade (though it was later confirmed this was not their plan).

This was also the first time Aus stood on it's own terms in battle separate of the UK. Curtin resisted extreme pressure from Churchill to divert our troops elsewhere. Command from Macarthur and Blamey was also completely shambolic, it was a miracle the troops were able to succeed
