Thanks, Lydia. That looks like a beautiful Grackle, another intelligent bird in the same family as Crows.
Nope. Grackles are not related to crows. They belong to the Icteridae, not the Corvidae. But still intelligent and beautiful birds. Great pic.
Thanks for correcting my mistake, Frank. You are of course completely right, and I appreciate the correction.
Careful saying they're not pretty - I hear they can hold grudges for weeks!
This experiment showed that they can recognize good vs bad humans and pass that knowledge on to their friendshttp://www.sciencemag.org/news/2010/02/caveman-or-dick-cheney-crows-know-difference …
That's interesting, thanks, Alison.
I love crows! They are one of the most interesting birds to watch. Such divas. Such drama queens. I’m so happy you took that photo.
Thanks!
My son lives in Japan, Crows twice the size and he’s seen them pick up coins and put them in the vending machines. Super smart !!!
Wow, Caroline.
Corvids ARE pretty. If you look closely, Corvus corone and similar crows or even Corvus corax, the common raven, are not black. They are pitch dark metallic blue, sometimes even purple. Bloody intelligent and imho very beautiful.
Agreed.
Yes they are clever. I think all birds deserve the spotlight ...amazing creatures
Of course, you are entirely right, Pat.
Excellent image with incredible detail. Way to go Jim!
Thanks, Michael.
Recently watched a murder of crows plan and execute a raid on sparrow nests to steal chicks. It was brilliant, not so nice for the sparrows- but it's the circle of life.
Wow. Thanks for sharing your experience, Denise.
