Thread-waisted wasp - solitary probably because it has a disagreeable temperament LOL parasitic on insects and spiders
I was doing some #birding when I heard a plop on the car. This #wasp was trying to fly away with a large #caterpillar but just couldn't manage it. He tried several times before giving up. Definitely! It is a type of mud dauber and they feed the caterpillar to their larva that are in mud nests that they build. They are harmless and not aggressive to humans. Very cool shot that you got there.pic.twitter.com/7Fwsx8RIs4

Both look very familiar though don't know names
On a quick search, they are a red-banded sand wasp (Ammophila sabulosa) & a larva of a moth related to tobacco hawk moth (Manduca sexta). Like the baby of the wasp, I was tempted to eat it when I was a child, but luckily I didn't. -

That is a tomato hornworm which emerges as a hummingbird hawk moth. The wasp is a caterpillar wasp )related to Tarantula hawks) trying to haul the poor, paralyzed worm to its underground nest to lay eggs on.

Probably an Ammophila wasp (surely not a tarantula hawk). The caterpillar could be a hornworm (Sphingidae).

If I saw this in the UK I would be looking at Ammophila sp. probably. Not sure about what would be where you are!
