Wow, that's crazy good.

I would enjoy seeing these birds on a regular basis. They are so fast and acrobatic catching insects they are amazing to watch. The booming sounds they make really different for a bird.

Known as a Night Jar in Britain ?
-
Could be, Graham, and I would think they are the same or related, but I'm not expert enough to say for sure. My friend Mali
@MaliHalls might be able to set me straight. -
Yep have a Google .
-
Nighthawk for you Jim...Nightjar for us in the UK...Super capture buddy. I've never seen these in decent light, lucky you.
-
Thanks, Mali.

Well done ! I must say the American name Nighthawk is much more apt ! All the Best from New Zealand .

Congrats! My only shots of them are in full silhouette because the sun was already down!

Thanks, Heather Lynn. I had a lucky day with an early bird.

Beautiful as always Jim! All your photo's are beautiful but sometimes, like this one, they take my breath away......you are such a talent!

I never can find that blushing emoji when I need it. Thanks, Sheri.

Amazing shot ;) you certainly have patience Jim . Rare bird in Britain. Often seen in our woods this time of year , resting after their trip. We had one just down the road in a country park a few years back. Got to Google about it now

Thanks, Jean. I've learned they are called Nightjars in Britain. Read some of the other comments on this photo to learn more.
