Jim, have some confidence brother. You said, I had one frame yesterday you got it! Photography is all about patience my friend, and you have that! Don’t be afraid.

Since you mentioned the raising of the camera, do you have any advice on how to do it while minimizing the chance that they take off? Seems like even the smallest motion can spook them sometimes.

Jim, things that will occasionally help is to make sure the camera settings are appropriate for the light and location, prefocusing on the most likely place you expect a bird to show up, and holding the camera up to your chest. Move slowly and smoothly to take the shot.

The moving slowly part is so hard, especially when it's a lifer or just an unusual opportunity. The first impulse is like, "OMG! OMG! OMG!"

awesome! one of the birds we have around here which i've never seen. i've tried to find one all summer! ah! been looking in an open field by the river where i live. now i'm gonna try the woods instead. thanks
