Was in the kitchen after ages making dinner & realised I was unconsciously holding the kitchen knife the way I hold the surgical blade & hence finding it difficult to cut veggies (scalpels are held in a way to facilitate precision whereas kitchen knifes need more power)😂🤦

Fomites: Is a term in medicine to refer to objects such as door knobs, spoons etc which- when contaminated with infectious agents such as bacteria & viruses- can transfer the disease to a new person. New Coronavirus has the potential to transmit through Fomites

Also, seasonal flu infects millions of people worldwide each year while SARS infected only about 8000 people. R0 is a measure of *potential* transmisability of a disease, it won't actually tell you how fast the disease will spread.

Seasonal flu has a R0 of about 1.3 & SARS had a R0 between 2-4. What you must understand here is that R0 is an *average* value. For example, one person with flu can infect zero people, or as much as fifty people. But on average for the said disease, the R0 is 1.3

The R0 value of the new Coronavirus strain is estimated to be between 1.4 - 2.5 by the WHO. And as high as 3.8 by some reputed epidemiologists. Which means that one infected person by the Coronavirus can infect up-to 1-3 people around them.

If R0 value of an infectious disease is R1, this means that one infected person can transmit the disease to at least one other person. If it's R2, this means one infected person can spread the disease to two other susceptible people.

The R0 Value: In Epidemiology -which is the branch of medicine that studies the origin, distribution and control of diseases, R0 (read as R-naught) is defined as the basic reproductive number of an infection

Thank you for reading this thread on how to wear a surgical face mask properly! You're encouraged to wear a mask if you are going to be in a crowded place. You can buy facemasks from the nearest pharmacy.
