It’s not about an exact sub count (or views)–having a large community is 1 part, other factors are around authenticity and prominence, such as being highly searched or having the potential to be confused with channels that have similar names. More here: https://yt.be/help/3QfB

Why is this changing? People with large sub-counts already have fans, meaning they are looked up and have prominence. I’m pretty sure 100,000 subs equals attention, noticeability and being authentic. Because no one would follow them if they weren’t.
