Why should the NYT have to apologize for running an op-ed by a senior gvt official? You might disagree with her position (I certainly do), but isn't it a core principle of liberalism to allow all voices to participate in public debate, even the unpleasant ones?

Also, an op-ed in a Western newspaper will change nothing for advocates for democracy in HK. What endangers them is the actual crack-down in the city itself and the extra-territorial powers created by the new nat-sec law, not a column in a journal far away.
