Middle Jomon fire pit, Okinohara, Tsunan, Niigata. there’s an embarrassing tendency that is Abrahamite on one hand &just middlebrow groping on the other to attribute aesthetic dispositions to ideologies. such people also think you need to read the Quran to “understand Moslems”pic.twitter.com/6QDPwRSYsG

it’s this type too that sees blonde Kalashas &speculates enthusiastically about Alexander. they don’t know what came before their letters &proclaim then that words fecundated creation. they can’t conceive of what resides beneath words, endures them, unconcernedly wipes them away

So, no. Japanese aesthetics are not determined in any significant way by Zen. the reverse, obviously so. maybe you’ll think also about why Japan was so especially receptive to TANG imports, when China was swimming in Sakas, Sugds, Kucheans, Kroranians, Xianbeis, Uigurs, Tibetans

this is not strictly true. some Britishers in the century prior also wrote grammar school fan-fiction like this. actually, there are all kinds of silly local ideas seeping out from under the insensible boulder of Islamic historicism (Alexander-Dhulqarnayn etc.)

The Koran and sadiths claim the god ares created the pyramids. The English do propose multiple theories in gonzo field reports. But they all agreed that most kalash viewed themselves as european
