Could you tell me where you found the school floor plan image?
-
@wrathofgnon have you seen anything like this with regards to urban planning? -
It is roughly how mature city plots and streets evolve naturally, if given enough time. A big difference is the lack of topography, natural or cultural (no valleys, streams, big rocks, ancient cult places, swamps, wells, etc.).
-
Yes exactly. Though a bit of an ironic solution...do you have any thoughts on algorithmic or AI (as opposed to organic) city design, like those floor plans, to help us optimize our cities to be more human-scaled?
-
Optimization ought not be the goal, but we can get tolerably close to optimal (99% and above) by simply copying the street layout of an old town with a similar topography. An optimal layout would strangle the town, less room for improvement, initiatives, etc.

What does "optimized for minimizing fire escape paths" mean? Is that a good thing or bad thing?
-
In this case iirc it meant minimizing the distance from any given room to a fire exit. So, good thing.

I feel like there are a ton of problems that would stem with that Some of them due to human psychology & people more comfortable with rectangles than weird blobs But also I feel like it would be really difficult to make alterations/expansions to it after it's already built

Ah yes, the classic Roman blobosseum. Sorry dude, humans like circles and rectangles basically exclusively. Irregular pentagons are for sociopaths

yeah but fish brains are more aesthetically pleasing

blob school is good for moving students around quickly, but long narrow hallways are good for the student’s souls
