Right after Aristide was removed US officials made the ridiculous claim that human rights were improving when in fact political violence exploded w/death squads hunting down Aristide gov officials&partisans. Foley was Amb. to Haiti 2003-05, presiding over the US coup/its violence

When poor elect leftists, US empowers extremist rightist minority to curtail mandate of elected gov & ask for compromise. This is in par w/ 🇺🇸 democracy w/ extremist GOP. In 🇭🇹 however, the right will never be voted in unless they are put in power by 🇺🇸. politico.com/news/magazine/

#Haiti has become a prison operated by the US-led CORE GROUP that appointed and keeps in power an evil warden named Ariel Henry. Prison gangs overseen by prison guards (PNH) control the corridors and prey upon the general population. Welcome to the nightmare of the 2004 coup.

The US won’t sanction Martelly cause they created him. Gave him a Haitian passport (when he was a U.S. citizen) so he could run for president of Haiti and then rigged the election so he could “win.” Gangster moves

Les États Unis ont félicité le Canada pour les sanctions contre Michel Martelly, mais ils ne l’ont toujours pas sanctionné, alors qu’en ce moment même il est sur leur territoire !

As the “left” celebrates Lula’s win, let’s remember Lula’s role in Haiti’s current predicament and demand that his government doesn’t repeat its terrible actions
Quote Tweet
We have not forgotten Lula's role in having Brazil lead the military wing of the UN occupation of Haiti beginning 2004. There needs to be acknowledgement and restitution. A "leftist" government treating Haitian people and Haitian sovereignty as dispensable is unforgivable.

US-trained/armed police gunned down journalist Roméo Vilsaint in front of Delmas 33 police station today in #Haiti's capital. He was covering arrest of fellow journalist working with Zénith FM. Delmas 33 station is where myself & Jean Ristil were held after our arrest in 2005.

Look up the “Ottawa Initiative” from 2003 to see how Canada, France, and the US decided to destroy Haitian sovereignty through a coup d’etat of Haiti’s democratically elected president

I met with @JustinTrudeau in Ottawa to discuss our shared priorities, from strengthening North American competitiveness to supporting Ukraine and Haiti. It is always a pleasure to speak about our close friendship and common values – even more so while on Canadian soil.

See? They don't give a shit about Haiti and Haitian people. End fuel subsidies & cause even more pain and poverty for the Haitian people. Back in 2000s, the US fought to NOT raise the Haitian minimum wage. "The American action is Haiti is in bankruptcy.” - Dantès Bellegarde

Asked why the Biden administration is supporting de facto PM Ariel Henry, @WHAAsstSecty says "he has ended fuel subsidies" which is something "we have wanted to see in Haiti for quite some time." "I respect him for that," Nichols said.

The US left has a simple choice: Recognise your regime's boundless brutality around the world and fight against it, or sustain the colonial attitude that it has the right to decide how others live and die. One makes you relevant. The other makes you complicit.
