Just a heads up, a lot of graduate students from poor families financially support family at home even while in school. Being able to “focus exclusively on your studies” during grad school is kind of a luxury.

Witchcraft-related violence occurs on a scale that even experts can't comprehend. Best estimate is >20,000 killings & mutilations in >60 countries in recent years, but this is likely a vast underestimate. Check out my new piece

  13. Think violence against tribal people by States doesn’t happen any more? Wrong. Tragic to see the Bodi, one of Ethiopia’s most traditional groups, suffer this kind of violence, especially on the heels of the Ethiopian PM’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Joseph Campbell & other story-nerds helped uncover a universal narrative: the sympathetic plot. Why are humans so into it? And what sets modern Western stories apart? (And why are so many protagonists orphans???) Check my new piece for answers!

  21. Results are about what you expect with a strong division b/t biological and cultural anthropology/archaeology. Notable to me is that only 54% of bios and 21% of cultural anthros think advocacy and fieldwork should be kept separate for objectivity.
