When will that be? Presumably at the same time as cars/lorries are also electric. So 800MW for an ultra high speed train, 1/2 a power station output, 3x that of conventional rail....It's like suggesting everyone ride in an electric Ferrari in 2060s

You are not supporting the "transition" at all! By the time
#hs2 is finished the transition period will have already ended & the carbon targets should have been reached. Hs2 will prevent us reaching those targets by 2050, and will not be carbon neutral for many years after that! -

What are you doing to decarbonise energy provision? Next you'll tell us every passenger will have a hot drink (if they bring a flask containing a hot drink) I see no point in Toton station - it serves noone so savings lost getting there.

They're building a railway. It's not their job to decarbonise our energy production, that's something the government have already promised to do and will be complete by the time HS2 is up and running.
