  8. This bath dates from when George III was advised by doctors to take warm baths to improve his mental health - one of the kinder treatments offered to him. A visitor to Kew in 1821 was told the King took his baths in the kitchen to save his servants carrying the hot water further.

  9. George was nearly assassinated in 1786. Margaret Nicholson lunged at the King with a dessert knife but was seized by guards. The King took pity on her, shouting: 'the poor creature is mad, do not hurt her. She's not hurt me.' His compassionate response endeared him to the public.
