After a year of getting 4 hours sleep a night most nights & occasional exhausted long sleeps, I've given in & accepted sleeping tablets. 3 nights of 8 hrs sleep & I feels like I'm on some wonderful drug. I have energy and mental clarity. And I'm not craving sugary, fatty things.

Have you tried Melatonin? I find it hard to shut off my thinking processes sometimes, & I often lay in bed thinking about potential solutions to whatever (software) development issues I'm having. Melatonin was a great help. You take it about 20 minutes before your planned bedtime

I'd have to get that from the doctor. I might ask.

It' non-prescription / OTC (considered a 'nutritional supplement'). Still, it would probably be wise to ask your doctor about it as I'm unsure if there are any known issues with taking it in conjunction with certain meds.
