Sometimes I think the main problem we face is simply that being reasonable & evidence based, moderate, charitable and broadly liberal is boring. Much more invigorating to throw yourself into a cause & have goodies & baddies.

This is one reason I am not convinced that seeing things in terms of grand myths & archetypes is the way to go. Yes, it appeals to our nature & yes, it can even inspire us to be the best version of ourselves but can it facilitate addressing the social world as it is?

Well, we also like seeing a pitched battle between equally good/bad protagonists (eg, Hector/Achilles). It’s not the lack of good guys and bad guys we find boring — people often enjoy moral ambiguity. It’s the reasonableness, persuasion, and compromise people cannot abide.

Have you seen "Paranorman"? It is made by Laika Studios, same company that made "Coraline". Stop motion animation. Anyway, it has a great message that I think you might appreciate! My kids love it, and it sparked some good reflections / discussion.

But some aspects of that nature of ours seems to be of great utility. I can see a hero or heroic story as a successful course of action. And though the resolution of this course may be low, too many details might bog down the progress of that action itself.

I have a feeling that a film about a negotiation could work if it was in the right hands. Have you ever seen A Hijacking (the film not a real life version).
