He's a lefty. He was accused of being a Marxist by some of the PoMo academics because he wrote that. I'm not sure if he actually was a socialist.

One of the authors of one of the two or three books (Fashionable Nonsense? Higher Superstition?) that came out of that was an avowed socialist. I think all were lefties. An underappreciated fact...
