Great. My rather modest point was that some who stay home don’t feel any need to pursue outside work, or sit on 3 charitable boards, or write a novel, in order to be fulfilled. A break from the kids? Sure. But a break to pursue some meaningful “vocation”? Not necessarily.
I've already said my cousin is one of them. I know they exist. I just think they're uncommon. Also, many of those matriarchs will be unfulfilled tho. Would you be fulfilled writing handwritten notes, visiting sick aunts and organising baby showers?

I think the default assumption should be that women will have both kinds of needs just as men usually do even tho there are some men (and a few women) who genuinely have no need for family life and devote themselves to work & some women (and a few men) who want to stay home.

Your derision makes my point. You wouldn’t be satisfied in that role—because you place little value on it—so you can’t imagine a thoughtful woman in 2018 actually choosing it. You just grudgingly acknowledge that maybe somewhere there’s a rare bird who chooses to be caged.
