That's an extrapolation fallacy. Just because the population decreases in the next, say, 3 generations doesn't mean it will decrease over the next 100. Maybe there's an equilibrium of, say, 6 billion that humanity will coalesce around and sustain for millennia.

That;s why I said 'If it goes on long enough'. It's quite possible that it won't for cultural reasons and also very likely we'll find a way to make & raise babies which is less painful and less hard work for the mother in that time.

I think Italy's birthrate is a low 1.8 per woman, which will cause ageing pop followed by pop fall. But while this rate *might* shut down a village, a large productive population will always find workers to sustain it. People move to countries, they don't to villages.
