Is there any medical/health problem associated with having an overbite?

The dentist tells me my daughter 'needs' a brace but the explanation seems to be cosmetic. She doesn't want one and I'm not overruling her unless it's medically necessary. If it's just cosmetic, it's like ear-piercing. Something she must weigh up the pain & inconvenience of.

Talk with your dentist about whether it's OK to delay the braces.

I tried. She kept pointing out that her top teeth stick out slightly. I asked why that mattered and she said because they're sticking out. I asked if she could have it done any time in her life and she said yes but better to do it now. Why? Because her teeth stick out.

If it can be done any time, then I wouldn't worry about it. Better to wait for when Lucy's ready.

Yes, I think so too. I just don't feel right overruling her own choice about her own body unless there is a really good medical reason.
