Is there any medical/health problem associated with having an overbite?

If overbite gets too pronounced, the lower teeth can start to abrade the upper inner gums, which can put you in peril of losing those teeth (9 & 10.) Worse case, in adulthood you can end up having to have your jaw broken, pulled forward, and plated. I wish I'd had it corrected.

I have an overbite that was never fully fixed. A dentist has told me that the continual touching of my lower teeth to my upper gum over many years will cause me continual issues in the future through infections which may require tooth removal.

But also.....may not. So I declined his offer of an enormous amount of dental work in favour of ‘let’s wait and see’.

This obsession with straightness is why Americans think they have amazing teeth. In terms of actual cleanliness and health, ours are better. Maybe it's all the stuff in their junk food.
