The dentist tells me my daughter 'needs' a brace but the explanation seems to be cosmetic. She doesn't want one and I'm not overruling her unless it's medically necessary. If it's just cosmetic, it's like ear-piercing. Something she must weigh up the pain & inconvenience of.

My friend recently told me they 'found out' their daughter needed a brace and I couldn't help thinking 'Well, if the two people who see her most can't see that her teeth are wonky, how wonky can they be?'

I have an over/under bite (not sure which) My teeth are disgusting and small to the point where I unable to smile properly and worry about exposing my teeth even in normal speech. They are not rotten or anything but they look bad enough to effect my life.

I have bruxism which is caused by this. It creates pain the tendons or what and around the jaw. Not nice. And I am starting to look like Stewey from Family Guy due to the muscle action...

Overbite teeth are more at risk of trauma from falls or facial impact.

If it is a deep bite w/out much flaring out, the concern is more accelerated tooth wear

Eventually it can be very uncomfortable. Mine is in my 40s and wasn’t when I was a kid. But I’m wary of the necessity of a lot of orthodontics.

In theory - because of bad jaw-alignment, many develop screwy jaw-muscle side-effects: teeth-grinding while asleep (which creates bigger dental bills down the road), headaches from muscle-tension...
