My starting point is the ideas that are circling right now and undermining scholarship & the credibility of the left. Then I look at what who they are citing for this - Crenshaw, Butler, Spivak etc - and what they are citing as the origins of their ideas.

It's a fair project to try to clarify what is a very messy intellectual / pseudo-intellectual mess. However, there are those who have absorbed these ideas via interdisciplinary studies, typically 2nd hand or 3rd hand bastardizations. And there are those who know the originals..

The problem here, IMO, is that you're primarily addressing the popular culture movements and the ways these ideas are being applied in real world situations, while some folks like Thomas are coming at it from their pedantry about the pure concepts. Two different conversations.

As for Thomas's categorization of you as a "reactionary lunatic propagandizing for the far right" he's demonstrating himself to be lazy & biased, which is not a good look for a purported intellectual of any stripe. Popular culture & current academia isn't a "pure" conversation.

Yep. I am interested in ideology and psychology in a political and cultural context. That tends to be messy. It involves reading a lot of the latest feminist epistemology, critical race theory, intersectionality, postcolonial theory & queer theory papers which cite the PoMos.

IMO, these ideas are what 'postmodernism' has become in the applied "political sense" and among pop-culture academic depts, whereas the original ideas that gave rise to this would be described somewhat differently by a philosophy 'purist'. Both are useful in different spheres.

And you consider yourself to be real up to speed and in touch with what is going on in various academic departments?

He certainly sounds like it. Can you possibly be unaware of this? Have you read much research coming out of them? Seen the student protests?

I make no such claim. @thomas_lord implies that he is, yet he reeks of insufferable pedant, so it's doubtful.

I do make the claim having been focusing on it for some considerable time now. You do have the picture. I said this recently.pic.twitter.com/EQO4vsqzmd
