Have a look at metamodernism, tweeps. I had a lengthy argument with the writer of this in which he said absolutely nothing.http://www.metamodernism.org/

Again the definition of art expands. This is why we can't have a conversation. It's like trying to grab hold of a live fish. This is what happens when you collapse categories into each other & eschew the rule of non-contradiction. Reasoned discussion becomes impossible. https://twitter.com/Luke_Turner/status/948297759718891526 …

How can this be used? It's fundamentally meaningless. Have your 'metamodernism discourse' which is 'descriptive rather than prescriptive; an inclusive means of articulating the ongoing developments associated with a structure of feeling.' I see no worth in it. pic.twitter.com/Z9HlaL5OsW

I'm not sure how I said nothing, but here's a brief introduction to metamodernism I put together, which hopefully your followers may find helpful in giving a straightforward, unpretentious sense of what is meant by the term metamodernism ✌️💖http://www.metamodernism.com/2015/01/12/metamodernism-a-brief-introduction/ …

metamodernism is simply a term for describing how culture has shifted over the past 2 decades, not a roadmap or 12 rules for life or anything. If this isn't useful to you, no worries 😊

It’s not inaccurate but it’s platonic & generalized. It cannot be applied & is useful only as a way to understand different ideologies & the impact they are having on society. I can see how it can be appealing to those who wish to appear enlightened while not engaging debate✌🏼

I'm not sure what is being commented on here, but metamodernism certainly engages with the emergence of different ideologies in recent years, though it is not exactly an ideology in itself, but more a mode from which those have emerged and are applied.

I first heard this term a few years ago and forgot about it. By Turner's account it seems like a poetic description of a state of cultural flux and reorientation, similar in spirit to Nietzsche's later writings.

Hmm. I kind of get what it's trying to say (particularly in the other 'introduction' piece) although I'm not sure that, in merely describing the state of art/culture at the moment, it's doing anything particularly useful.

How's this? "When irony is the default, sincerity becomes novelty. Excessive sincerity becomes extremism, but this can be avoided by oscillating between multiple ironies & sincerities. The trick is to avoid devaluing them in the process". Not sure the last point is possible tho

in a very long winded way what he is pushing is transcendence. "Art as a gateway to the infinite" ( Ananda Coomerswarmy). The paradoxical state where awareness of both the unmanifest wave and the manifest particle may be present. In short in old fashioned terms "mysticism"
