A young friend of mine who is mixed race got upset coz an older white colleague kept describing her tan as 'being dirty.' She mostly told me about it because she felt unreasonable for feeling upset because there was no malice there. I suggested saying something about it.

She decided not to saying it was something she'd just have to stop being silly about. She is very against the whole idea of microaggressions. But I think there was a middle way. To actually say to her what she said to me in a friendly, non-accusing way.
