I think the most charitable thing to do if you reduce someone to tears by saying something you think needed saying, is to pretend not to notice, let them get away and take time to process and then see what they do from there. This is all I have to say about tears. Working now.

Nursing is a good case to focus on. In my experience some young students can be picked on terribly. I worked on building sites for years and never seen anything like what goes on with student nurses. On the buildings you may get a flare up and then it is over.

But student nurses can be exposed to sustained nastiness. I agree though it is a job that you need to be able to deal with legit criticism when you get it wrong. It is also a place where weaponized tears are less likely to work as people are usually to busy to deal with them.
